Chillingham Castle, Northumberland, England

This is the front of Chillingham Castle, which is located in Northumberland, England. The castle dates back to around the 13th century and has passed through the hands of many generations. The castle is reputed to be one of the most haunted in the country and many strange sightings have been reported by people who work at the castle and also visitors. The present owner has taken on the immense project of restoring the castle back to it's former glory. He has made hundreds of artifacts available to the public for their enjoyment in a "hands on" experience. As you'll see from the following photos, the different rooms portray different eras gone by, so at times it was somewhat disconcerting to step from an elaborate parlor into a truly medieval dungeon. Enjoy the tour!

Now comes the good part...the dungeon! The difference between the living quarters and this room is unbelievable. The room is so dark that when I took a photo, I couldn't see what I was shooting until the flash went off. Can you imagine what it felt like to be led in shackled, helpless, not knowing what fate awaited you?

You should know what this is.... the Rack! No dungeon is complete without one. If you look closely, you'll see that the design is very simple but the effect was very efficient. Especially good for those days when you're feeling short! (just my sadistic sense of humor, here)

The Rack

No matter how tired you would get, it wouldn't be wise to ask to sit down. Imagine having your wrists strapped to the arms of this chair and trying to keep your weight off the seat. Your legs would eventually give out and you'd have to give in to the exhausted muscles. Although the spikes on the seat aren't long enough to hit any vital organs (well, cock and balls, maybe) the pain would be immense! So, you fans of CBT, this just might be the thing you've been looking for!

Spiked Chair

Here is the infamous "Iron Maiden", noted for the finality of her embrace. I found it just a little humorous that the person who constructed this wicked device went so far as to put a face and a set of breasts on it. As if the poor victim could care!

This is the interior of the Iron Maiden. Note the length of the spikes and also their position. If you've ever had the fantasy of being trapped inside this wicked Lady, the real event would surely be a one-off.

You've heard the term, "broken on the wheel". Our modern day (play) version is very different from the real McCoy. Note the spikes on the cross piece at the bottom of the wheel. Not much chance of falling off.

The Wheel

I'm not sure what the real name of this device is, but "Impaler" seems to fit. The picture says it all. Dildo, anyone?

Some of our modern BDSM cages must have been fashioned after this medieval cage. I can only imagine that it was hung in the air, possibly over a slow buring fire, or maybe worse? What do you think?

No, it isn't a blonde with big boobs. When I saw this device I said, "Gee, they must have had very big bears around here." but was told that this was a trap meant for enemies. The traps were situated in vulnerable places around the castle so that if an intruder tried to get in, he would be caught by the trap. A very inexpensive home security system.

This room contained a simple bed, table and chair but the most interesting thing was the suit of armor (I think the red scarf detracts) and also the length of the sword that's leaning against the wall. Although I took over 80 photos while in the castle, nothing out of the ordinary showed up on any of the photos but this one. Do you see the orb on the right of the sword, just over the handle? Is it a reflection from dust, moisture in the air, the gleam off the metal handle or something more sinister? (As a matter of note, I've had orbs appear in photos of my dungeon)

Once you were taken into the dungeon, you might have been placed in this cell to await what ever your punishment was to be. The cell is quite small, just enough room to crouch or lie down while you watched through the bars, someone else's torture. I'm sure that it wasn't a sexy Mistress carrying out the despicable deeds on the unfortunate victim.

The ornate parlour is a huge contrast to the rest of the castle. Winding stone steps lead the way to this room and when I first saw it, it wasn't what I expected to see. The opulence is very evident in this room, down to the intricately restored ceiling. Velvets, brocade, gilt, and painstakingly carved furniture are prominent and gives the room a feeling of warmth and comfort, so very different from the cold and drafty hallways. A Mistress could feel right at home here.

Drawing Room

This room is evidently the banquet hall, the room where entertaining took place. Again, some of the furnishings are from more recent times so there is a mix of furniture and artifacts from many different centuries. Even so, I still could imagine a huge roast pig with an apple in it's mouth on a platter in the center of the table.
